The Search for the Tardis

We were mucho delighted to have Carol, Ivan, Elsa and Celia take a few days out of their annual trip home to Spain to visit us in Marlow.

Here is a picture of the gang reunited
(plus Ivan showing off his fancy new iWatch & iPhone camera app skills)

Day one - the tour of Marlow.

Calling home to make sure the dogs are okay.

One of the sunniest days we have had this English summer...

 Strike a pose

 There's nothing to it.

After Henry & Oliver got out of school it was pirate time.

Off to the tunnel and a little geocaching.

Gifts for the boys - super soakers of some sort.

Double trouble...

Henry stands his ground in watergun fights!

Day 2 was off to London.  First stop was the Sherlock Holmes museum.

221b Baker Street

Me after drinking some of the Spanish port that Ivan brought...

Buckingham Palace

Trafalgar Square (the lions were pre-occupied)

 Horse Guard's Museum

Big Ben

The last remaining Tardis in London (its a Dr. Who thing)

Piccadilly Circus.

Henry, Oliver and Yoda.

Sunday was a boat festival on the Thames.

Here is the Blue Bird K3, a hydroplane powerboat that set three world water speed records in the 30's.  It blew its engine the day before while showing off and was stuck on the back of a lorry.

Lots of cool boats

Here are a few of the remaining little ships of Dunkirk.  The little ships were 700 private boats that sailed from Ramsgate in England to Dunkirk in France between 26 May and 4 June 1940 as part of Operation Dynamo, helping to rescue more than 338,000 British and French soldiers who were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk during the Second World War.  They were essentially weekend pleasure crafts that were 'enlisted' into the rescue operation.

(Coincidentally I ended up piloting one of the ships down the Thames the following week after we bumped into some friends we made in Austria...stay tuned for that story)

 Right out of the 4077th

These small boats run on steam. See the pipes?

Peter Pan

                                                                    Peter Pan, too.

The Queen's boat, the Glorianna, was also in attendance.

Ivan and the girls trying to sneak on.

The Gloriana being rowed in all its glory.

After the boat festival Beth brought the boys home and the rest of us headed over to Hambledon

Just a horse trotting by the town well (on far left) and the general store/post office on the right.

Straight out of Little House on the Prairie

After all that walking it was time for a pint at the Stag & Huntsman beer garden.
