I have to give credit to Mark for thinking of this post title. I love it. For those who don't understand it, you are on your own.
So, this last half term break we did a much better job making plans. No sitting around the house for us! We decided to spend some time on the beach and Crete was our destination. The flight was only 4.5 hours which was very manageable for the boys -except when one of them falls asleep 5 min before we land and has a complete meltdown when woken up- but all in all short trip. This holiday wasn't about site seeing, finding restaurants, or driving around. It was about being at a stunning resort and relaxing. Beach and pool and pool and beach. Repeat. We were there for 4 nights and 5 days and it was such a nice chance of scenery and weather. It was in the high 70's, low 80's every day- bliss. When the kids came home from holiday they told everyone that would listen about where they just went and described it as follows:
"It was sunny every day, we splashed in the pool, made sandcastles, we watched the sun set, danced at the disco and ate ice cream every day. " All in that order. It was hilarious to hear them describe the vacation.
Mark and I would have described it the same way except for a slight variation:
"It was sunny everyday, we lounged by the pool while our kids splashed, we sipped cocktails on the beach while we watched them dig in the sand, we ate incredible food, watched the sun set and watched our kids dance at the mini disco while being served champagne."
This was our humble holiday home. Amirandes Resort
And here is the fun we had while we were there...
They had their own bathrobes which they clearly loved.
JUMP!
Who doesn't love a little sand throwing?
Me that's who.
If anyone knows how to get a million sand particles
out of lycra bathing suits, please tell me. Please.
One of the songs played at the disco was the Chicken Dance, only
this one had a move that required clapping under your knee. Tricky.
Yes, the boys pulled me into a circle dance.
On this particular night, Oliver sat out and decided to paint instead.
Whoop whoop!
Dancing on the stage = fun.
Happy boys.
The sunsets were amazing. It's been a long time since I've seen one so beautiful.
The boys loved counting while watching it set.
Out cold, not a peep.
If I knew it would get the same result, I would have mini disco in my house every night.
Just some examples of how rough they had it.
Mark ordered the fish. Not sure he knew what that meant. And I had the
best Greek salad of my life. I win.
I'm pretty sure he is asleep.
Yay me, I just had my dessert before my dinner!
I'm done.
Crete selfie!
Are you wondering if anyone had meltdowns on holiday?
Of course! They are still four.
When the kids were smaller, I never thought we would get to the point of having a relaxing beach vacation, or any relaxing vacation for that matter. It is finally getting easier, definitely more comical and above all worth the wait.
This is me dabbling with pictures in Picasa. Pencil sketch.
Well Crete, it's been real.
Real fun that is!
(you knew that was coming right?)
Stay tuned for further adventures!
Cheers and happy summer!
OMG. I love this. I love seeing your adventures and I'm insanely jealous of the trip. The sunsets are remarkable! Miss you guys like crazy. xo
