The Time We Rented a Villa in Sicily

Oliver and Henry are BIG fans of the Godfather so this year we decided to spend our summer holiday in Sicily.  We rented a nice villa on an olive tree farm right on the southern coast in Sciacca.

To maximize our trip we arrived a day early and spent some time in Cinisi.

Here are the boys representing the US of A.

The next day we got up nice and early and drove to Sciacca.

Henry really enjoyed the villa's unique artwork.

Oliver's interpretation.

Day one was a bit cloudy so we headed to an eccentric garden called Castello Incantato (Enchanted Castle) filled with heads carved into stone.

A local man, Filippo Bentivegna, emigrated to America in the early twentieth century, and endured various difficulties and mishaps, including being beaten up by a love rival.  Returning embittered to Sicily, he created a strange world of his in this garden, sculpting heads and figures thought to represent his 'enemies.'

Hands off the rock, kid.

You too!

After the stone heads we headed to the village of Sciacca, a historic fishing port.

Murals found behind a wall during construction of the church (above).

In case of rain these are good streets to be on.

We spent most of the week at our pool or local beaches.

The boys enjoyed the diving board.

And just chillin'...

Hello

Here is a picture of the house from the beach.

There was also a horse on the property. He liked apples and carrots but not bananas.

 Brotherly love.

Down the coast a bit was an ancient Greek amphitheater.

Midweek we visited the Valley of Temples.  Some very well preserved Greek ruins.

Everywhere we go....

Cheers Sicily (looking at the pictures I think I wore the same shirt all week).
