Two beautiful girls...Happy Birthday!

Today is my sister Stephanie Diane's birthday. I won't discuss her age, because as she would say, a woman never reveals her age. I can tell you that she is young and more importantly, she is younger than me. Stephanie was my first baby sister to enter my life and believe it or not, I still remember the day she came home.  It was so exciting to have a real baby to take care of!  My mother made me feel very important while I muddled through my new big sister role.  I also remember that I wanted to teach her everything I knew- which wasn't a lot at the ripe old age of 3.5 years.  Nonetheless I tried.  It was fun to have a playmate and a friend- and it didn't bother me at all that she didn't smile at me for a few months, or talk.  Just having her there was a comfort.

Stephanie, having you in my world today brings just as much comfort as it did the day Mom and Dad brought you home.  I hope you realize how much you are loved...not just by me, but by everyone in your life.  Happy Birthday to my first friend.  I love you.

And now here is the throwback picture just for good measure.

Lucy Rose, Stephanie's second daughter, also had a birthday over the weekend.  She turned the cute age of 2! And I mean cute with a capital C.  Of course, she shows those oh-so-lovely age two moments to her mom, but since I only see pictures and videos, I get all cuteness, nothing else! Lucy Bean, you have a special place in our hearts and have brought nothing but joy to our entire family.  Especially to your older sister Annabeth- trust me, I'm speaking from experience. ;)

Lots of love and hugs and kisses to you both!!!  We are all looking forward to seeing the entire Goryl family in a few weeks!

  2. Thanks so much for the sweet and thoughtful post. Tears of happiness and those of missing you abound. I hope I didn't gouge your eyes out the way Lucy does with Annabeth at times :) Love you so. xo

  3. I too remember the day Stephanie came home and we placed her in your arms. As I recall we had you sit on the end of the couch with your arms just so. Specific instrutions to hold her tight but not to tight and be sure to keep her head up! Its nice to be able to remember the simple things. :-)
